Belinda and the staff would like to report that we are all safe and our families are all well, after flash flooding swept through Toowoomba on Monday the 10th of January 2011.
We did not take on any water at our Gardentown store thankfully. The store is just metres from the West Creek Corridor which overflowed causing horrendous damage to the immediate low lying area. Gardentown shopping centre is slightly elevated and therefore was not flooded however the water did rise approximately one metre on the north west side, covering part of the stairs and escalator which lead up to the main entrance.
Our thoughts go out the the owners and staff of businesses in the area that were damaged; The Coffee Club, Next Byte and Neo-Tokyo seem the worst affected in the immediate area. Teams of people are working around the clock restoring the area, we were surprised to see restoration of the side-walk and paving outside The Coffee Club just 24 hours after the water had subsided. The Police, Emergency Services, SES and Toowomba Council are all doing an amazing job. Thank you to you all.
After two days of closure we are now back on deck. The main reason for our closure was due to power outages, stranded staff and lack of supplies. We have made very minor changes to the menu while certain suppliers come back on line. The majority of our usual supplies including fresh produce, milk, bread etc are as per normal. Good news is you can now come in and grab your favorite Coffee.
